Win Up to $25,000 in the Education in 2028: AIEd Forecasting Competition

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence is reshaping education in profound ways. To help understand and anticipate these changes, EdTechnical has launched the Education in 2028: AIEd Forecasting Competition. This global competition invites educators, researchers, technologists, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders to make informed predictions about how AI will impact education by the end of 2028. The goal is to generate high-quality forecasts that can inform decisions across schools, universities, and education systems worldwide.

Participants are encouraged to submit thoughtful, evidence-based forecasts that explore both the opportunities and risks of AI in education. By bringing together insights from diverse perspectives, the competition aims to build collective intelligence about the future of teaching, learning, assessment, and educational equity.

Deadline: Tuesday, 16 December at 23:59 GMT.

Entry Fee: Free.

Forecasting Tracks

The competition features five tracks, each focused on a different dimension of AI’s future influence on education:

  1. Teaching Profession
Predict the percentage of non-interpersonal teacher tasks that will be delegated to AI systems by 2028, such as lesson planning, grading, and communication.
  2. Cognitive Development and Mathematics Education
Forecast whether enrollment in advanced high-school mathematics courses will increase, decrease, or remain stable as AI becomes more capable of solving complex math problems.
  3. Student Motivation, Personalization, and Socialization
Estimate what percentage of students will spend more than two hours daily engaging with AI-driven personalized or gamified learning.
  4. Higher Education Assessment and Academic Integrity
Predict the likelihood that universities will shift back to in-person, proctored assessments in response to AI’s ability to complete written coursework.
  5. AI Tutoring
Assess the likelihood that AI tutoring platforms will achieve learning outcomes comparable to high-quality professional human tutors.

Each track requires participants to provide clear predictions, supporting rationale, and analysis of potential implications.

The competition will award up to $25,000 across 50 total prizes.
Each track will offer:

  • 1 Grand Prize: $2,500
