Narok West Member of Parliament Gabriel Tongoyo has praised government initiatives aimed at expanding employment opportunities for young people, saying the programmes are beginning to yield results. He noted that while unemployment remains a major national challenge, an increasing number of youths are benefiting from targeted interventions.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony at Maasai Mara University, Tongoyo commended efforts to facilitate overseas placements for Kenyan youth, describing the pathways to international employment as a practical step toward easing domestic pressure on the job market. He urged the two thousand graduates to leverage their training to create enterprises and opportunities within their communities.
“Unemployment has been a serious problem for a long time, but we are now seeing many youths benefit from the initiatives being rolled out by the government,” Tongoyo said.
“The government’s decision to link our youth with job opportunities abroad is a commendable move that is helping to ease the pressure of unemployment at home,” he added.

Tongoyo encouraged graduates to view themselves as job creators, not just job seekers, and to apply their skills in ways that stimulate local economies. He further called for resilience and optimism, assuring the cohort of the government’s commitment to tackling unemployment through sustained policy action and partnership with institutions.
“I urge you to use the education and skills you have gained to become job creators, not just job seekers,” he told the graduates.
“Do not give up. The government is committed to ensuring that the issue of unemployment is tackled decisively,” Tongoyo said.
Unemployment continues to affect thousands of young people entering the labour market each year. Tongoyo said aligning training with industry needs, expanding entrepreneurship support, and opening credible international pathways will be essential to absorb growing numbers of graduates while strengthening Kenya’s human capital.
