Southern Miss baseball introducing season-ticket fee to go toward scholarships, revenue sharing – SuperTalk Mississippi Media

As Southern Miss has consistently been a baseball powerhouse, officials within the school’s athletic department are doing what they can to make sure it stays that way amid the ever-changing landscape of college athletics.
Athletic director Jeremy McClain announced Wednesday that a “Competitive Excellence Fee” will be tacked on to the 2026 baseball season ticket renewal process. The money will go directly toward student-athlete initiatives like scholarships and revenue sharing opportunities for baseball players.
“As the landscape of college athletics continues to change, it’s important that we continue finding innovative ways to provide the resources necessary for sustained success,” McClain stated in a release. “The Competitive Excellence Fee represents an investment in the future of Southern Miss Baseball and our student-athletes, ensuring we remain among the nation’s elite programs.”
According to Scott Watkins of the Sun Herald, the Competitive Excellence Fee will average between $20 and $25. Based on recent season ticket sales, it could lead to an immediate boost of up to $125,000 for the baseball program.
Kendall Rogers, the managing editor of D1Baseball, touted the move as a “super smart idea.”
This is a super smart idea by @SouthernMissBSB. Season ticket renewals now have a Competitive Excellence Fee where fans and donors can give money directly to baseball’s scholarships and revenue sharing. https://t.co/hulfHS3DCl

Southern Miss will begin the 2026 season at home on Feb. 13 against UC Santa Barbara. The Golden Eagles are looking to extend their Division I-leading streak of 40 wins or more to 10 seasons and reach the College World Series for the first time since 2009.
