On the sidelines of the World Conference on Telecommunications Development (CMDT-25) in Baku, Azerbaijan, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)  and Senegal’s Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (ARTP)  signed a cooperation agreement aimed at fostering digital business ecosystems and supporting young women entrepreneurs in Senegal.
The agreement, signed by Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director General of the ITU Development Bureau (BDT), and ARTP Director General Dahirou Thiam, establishes a framework for collaboration on the project’s first phase, which focuses on integrating young women into Senegal’s digital commerce sector. Operational procedures and the distribution of responsibilities are outlined in a project document, which will take effect after internal approvals at ARTP.
Speaking on the agreement, Director General Thiam emphasized that ARTP acts as the project initiator, with the benefits intended for Senegalese women entrepreneurs. The initiative aims to strengthen their participation in digital trade through skill development, ecosystem support, and the creation of digital tools.
The partnership reflects Senegalese authorities’ commitment to making digitalisation a key driver of the national economy. The agreement was signed in a formal plenary session before elected officials and foreign delegations, with several countries expressing interest in following Senegal’s example.
