Are you ready to inspire the next generation of ocean stewards? The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation is calling on students aged 11–19 around the world to participate in the Science Without Borders® Challenge, an international art competition that marries creativity with scientific awareness.
Each year, the Challenge dives into a new ocean-conservation theme and invites young artists to visualize it in impactful ways. For 2026, the focus is on “Microscopic Marine Life” — the tiny organisms that are invisible to the naked eye but vital to our planet’s health. We’re talking about phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacteria, protists, and more. These seemingly small creatures form the foundation of marine food webs, generate oxygen, recycle nutrients, and even help regulate Earth’s climate. Living Oceans Foundation
By encouraging students to create artwork around microscopic marine life, the Challenge promotes a deeper understanding of how even the smallest organisms sustain entire ecosystems. Through their art, young people can raise awareness about the unseen heroes of the ocean.
