BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Friday is our friend and former colleague, Judy Simpson’s birthday.
The longtime former morning anchor passed away last year after a battle with cancer.
Now, to honor her commitment to journalism, her family has announced a scholarship fund in her name.
“I felt nothing would make her happier than to encourage the next generations to follow her lead,” said Phil Maglione, Judy’s husband. “I mentioned it to the kids — they were ecstatic… You know they’re very, very proud of their mom, and this is just another piece to add to her legacy.”

The $1,000 scholarship will go to a high school senior in Vermont who is pursuing a career in journalism, communications, digital reporting, and other media careers.
