The Government of Punjab has managed to provide government jobs to 61,000 youth from the State over a period of four years. At a recent event, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann handed over appointment letters to 606 newly-hired candidates from across the State who will be joining the Education Department. Of these, 385 are special education teachers, 157 are primary teachers, eight are principals and 56 candidates have received employment on compassionate grounds.
In total, about 61,000 jobs have been provided in the past four years, and as per the Chief Minister, these appointments have been made transparently, on the basis of merit alone.
The state government has also introduced a cadre exclusively for special education teachers across government schools. The 385 teachers recruited under this cadre will cater to the education needs of the about 48,000 children with special needs studying across primary and secondary government schools in Punjab.
As per media reports, the state government has managed to get about 234 principals and education officers trained in Singapore, while about 249 head teachers were sent for training at Indian Institute of Management ( IIM) Ahmedabad, and 216 primary teachers received training at Turku University in Finland. These training programmes are expected to significantly improve the quality of education across the state.
It is hoped that the appointment of these teachers will help improve the future of students, especially those with special needs.
Punjab is already offering free bus service for girl students, with about 10,000 girl students across the state already availing the facility every day. As part of the State’s reforms, it has been ensured that each and every student of government schools gets to sit on a proper chair or bench.
