
The Pan African University (PAU), an initiative of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union, has opened applications for the 2026–2027 academic year. This fully funded scholarship program offers opportunities for outstanding African students and members of the African diaspora to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees at one of PAU’s renowned institutes across the continent.
The Call will be launched on November 15th, 2025 and will close on December 15th, 2025.
Applications received after this deadline will NOT be considered.
The Pan African University (PAU) is a continental university network established to promote quality postgraduate education and advance the vision of a prosperous, integrated, and peaceful Africa. Since 2014, the PAU has awarded 2,549 certificates to students from 50 African Union Member States, including 856 women and 1,693 men.
The university aims to train a new generation of academics, professionals, industrialists, innovators, and entrepreneurs who will play transformative leadership roles in Africa’s development.
Applicants may apply to one of the following four Pan African University institutes:
Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) – Kenya
Pan African University Institute for Life and Earth Sciences (PAULESI) – Nigeria
Pan African University Institute for Governance, Humanities and Social Sciences (PAUGHSS) – Cameroon
Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) – Algeria
Applicants for the master’s degree programmes must meet the following criteria:
Be not older than 25 years for male and 28 years for female applicants.
Hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized university with at least a second-class upper division or equivalent in a relevant field.
Submit certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts (university and high school).
Provide a copy of a passport or national ID card (personal details page).
Include a clear, colored passport-size photograph (2 cm x 2 cm).
Attach a detailed CV.
Provide one recommendation letter from a former university lecturer.
List three reference university lecturers with their email addresses and WhatsApp numbers (mandatory).
Applicants may be required to take a written or oral examination after pre-selection.
For the Master’s in Conference Interpreting and Translation, candidates must have excellent knowledge of at least two of the African Union’s official languages (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Kiswahili, or Spanish).
Applicants for the doctoral programme must meet the following criteria:
Be not older than 28 years for male and 30 years for female applicants.
Hold a master’s degree in a relevant field from PAU or any internationally recognized university.
Submit certified copies of relevant certificates and transcripts.
Provide a passport or national ID card (biometric/personal details page).
Include a clear, colored passport-size photograph (2 cm x 2 cm).
Attach a detailed CV.
Provide two recommendation letters from professors.
Submit a 3–4-page research concept note including a tentative title, research questions, objectives, and significance of the research.
List three reference university lecturers with their email addresses and WhatsApp numbers (mandatory).
The African Union Commission offers full scholarships to all successful candidates. The award covers tuition, accommodation, and a living stipend, allowing scholars to focus entirely on their studies and research.
