The NextGen Foreign Policy Initiative by Foreign Policy for America (FP4A) is dedicated to spotlighting and supporting diverse young leaders from across the country who are shaping the future of American engagement in the world.
Foreign Policy for America’s NextGen Initiative identifies, connects, and mentors the next generation of leaders who can advance principled American engagement globally. By supporting rising experts and activists, the program creates a dynamic community of action led by volunteer co-chairs and organized through issue working groups and city-specific local networks.
NextGen is more than a networking opportunity—it is a community committed to meaningful participation and active engagement in foreign policy discourse and action.
NextGen cohort members benefit from four core pillars of activities:
Knowledge Building: Access to educational resources, expert briefings, and policy insights to deepen understanding of critical foreign policy issues.
Political Engagement: Opportunities to participate in advocacy efforts and political activities that shape American foreign policy.
Professional Development: Career advancement support, skills training, and professional growth opportunities tailored to emerging foreign policy professionals.
Community Connections: A vibrant network of peers, mentors, and advisors creating lasting professional relationships.
Members also have access to tailored mentorship initiatives and an extraordinary network of fellow members and advisors. The program provides opportunities to engage across the full range of FP4A efforts, including community events, advocacy campaigns, and political activities.
Foreign Policy for America’s annual Leadership Summit, held every May, creates a unique opportunity for NextGen members to convene with fellow cohort members, FP4A Leadership Circle members, and foreign policy leaders from across the country.
