Nantucket Community School Journeyman Electrician Scholarships Now Available to Island Residents – Nantucket Current

Lillie Simpson •
For the second year, Nantucket Community School has partnered with Upper Cape Cod Tech to offer 10 local residents the opportunity to train towards their journeyman electrician licence completely free of charge.
Thanks to funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s Climate Critical Workforce Training Grant, those participating will receive free tuition that includes work boots, tools, textbooks and more.
Brian Lenane, Nantucket Community School Adult Education Coordinator said, “This program is a win for workforce development and a win for out local economy. It shows what’s possible when funding meets collaboration.”
Last year’s scholarship recipients are now employed electrical contractors on the island.
In order to apply, students must be 18 years or older at the start of class (August 16) and have a valid massachusetts drivers licence, the ability to work in the US and a high school diploma.
