The King’s Foundation Oxford DPhil Scholarships offer an exceptional opportunity for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of individual health, community wellbeing, and the role of nature. Candidates will be based at the University of Oxford and gain hands-on experience through placements at the King’s Foundation’s new Health & Wellbeing Centre at Highgrove, as well as association with the Global Centre on Healthcare and Urbanisation (GCHU) at Kellogg College.
Scholarship Coverage: Full fee support at the Home rate for the DPhil in Primary Care Health Sciences.
Stipend: Minimum £20,000 per annum, above the UK Research and Innovation rate.
Additional Support: Research expenses, mentoring, career development training, and opportunities to organise conferences and events with The King’s Foundation.
Duration: Typically 3 years (fee liability period).
The program welcomes applicants from a wide range of disciplines, including:
Evidence-based Medicine
Public Health
Community Health and Integrated Systems
Health Economics and Health Psychology
Environmental Studies and Geography
Social Sciences
Research focus: Candidates are encouraged to explore multidisciplinary projects addressing the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health and wellbeing. Innovative approaches bridging medicine, social sciences, and urban health research are particularly encouraged.
Scholarship recipients will participate in activities at the Health & Wellbeing Centre at Highgrove, set to open in 2027. The Centre will offer holistic services to the local community, integrating GP and patient-led programs with referrals from primary and secondary care providers. Students will gain real-world experience implementing integrated health and wellbeing initiatives.
Students will be paired with at least two supervisors in their first year.
Academic advisors from the King’s Foundation will provide guidance.
Applicants are encouraged to engage with potential supervisors early, though there is no obligation at the application stage.
Projects will be overseen by a multidisciplinary team from The King’s Foundation, GCHU, and CEBM.

Candidates must apply for the DPhil in Primary Care Health Sciences.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a first degree in a relevant discipline and aim to complete their DPhil during the scholarship period. Overseas students may apply but must fund any remaining fees.
