The Climate Policy & Finance Intern will contribute to Climate Focus’s projects supporting climate change mitigation, particularly within the land-use and forestry sectors. The intern will work in close collaboration with teams conducting research, policy analysis, and project assessments that align with the Paris Agreement, focusing on sustainable land use, climate finance, and carbon markets.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting research and analysis on deforestation-free commodity production, climate-smart agriculture, landscape restoration, and sustainable supply chains.
Supporting assessments of national climate pledges and policies related to nature-based solutions and food systems.
Reviewing and analyzing greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting methodologies and carbon market standards to ensure alignment with international integrity criteria.
Contributing to policy briefs, reports, and proposals for international clients.
Assisting in financial and technical analysis of land-use business models and climate finance mechanisms.
Supporting advisory projects for governments, multilateral organizations, and private sector clients focused on climate finance and carbon market mechanisms.
This internship runs for three months with the possibility of extension, beginning between January 5 and March 2, 2026. The position follows a hybrid model, requiring presence in Washington, D.C.
The ideal candidate is a motivated graduate or final-year student with a strong academic foundation and a deep commitment to addressing climate change through policy and finance.
Minimum qualifications include:
A graduate degree (or near completion) in environmental policy, business, economics, forestry, agriculture, or a related field.
Full-time availability (40 hours per week).
A strong interest in climate policy, carbon markets, sustainable supply chains, and nature-based solutions.
Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
Fluency in English; Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency is highly preferred.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
