The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with the Hungarian Government, has opened applications for the FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme 2026–2027. This fully funded Master’s scholarship supports outstanding students from eligible countries to pursue English-taught MSc programmes at leading Hungarian universities, starting September 2026.

This programme provides a pathway to high-quality postgraduate education in Europe for students from developing regions, strengthening global capacity in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.
Available Master’s Programmes (2026–2027)
The following MSc programmes taught in English are offered, subject to minimum enrolment:

What the Scholarship Covers
The scholarship is fully funded and includes:

Application and full tuition fees for the entire study period

Basic books and academic notes

Dormitory accommodation

Monthly subsistence allowance

Health insurance
All costs are financed by the Hungarian Government under the FAO–Hungary Agreement (2007).
Note: The scholarship covers student costs only; family members are not supported.
Eligible Countries and Territories
Applicants must be nationals and residents of one of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, Palestine, Philippines, Republic of Cabo Verde, Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.
Selection Criteria
Candidates are assessed based on:

Age preference: candidates under 30 years
Application and Selection Process
Scholarships beginning in September 2026 follow a two-phase selection process:
Phase 1: FAO Pre-Screening
FAO reviews complete applications and forwards eligible dossiers to the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture, which submits them to the selected universities.
Incomplete or unnamed applications will not be processed.
Phase 2: University Selection
Shortlisted candidates may be required to take written or oral English examinations. Final selection is made by the universities, with notifications sent by the Ministry.
