Empowering Women in STEM: Fully Funded Master’s Scholarships in the UK

Ladies Who Lab: Lesser-Known Women in Science, 1920–1970 | Science History Institute

At Opportunities for Women, we believe in breaking barriers especially in fields where women remain underrepresented. The British Council “Women in STEM” scholarship offers a life-changing opportunity for women from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue a one-year master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) at top UK universities.

What the Scholarship Offers

  • A full scholarship that covers tuition fees, living stipend, travel and visa costs, health coverage, and when needed English language support. Each scholarship is worth at least £40,000. British Council

  • Access to globally renowned UK institutions known for excellence in science and research. British Council

  • Career-boosting opportunities: the programme empowers women to build a strong foundation in STEM often opening doors to advanced research, leadership, and innovation roles. British Council

Who Can Apply – Eligibility Highlights

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Identify legally as female (per passport or official documentation). British Council

  • Hold a valid passport from one of the eligible countries and be able to obtain a UK visa. British Council

  • Have completed an undergraduate degree in a STEM subject (or be in the final year, with the degree completed before enrollment).

Why This Matters

Globally, women remain significantly underrepresented in STEM fields. Despite proven productivity, women are often published less, paid less, and under-represented in leadership or research roles. British Council By offering comprehensive funding and access to world-class education, this scholarship helps to level the playing field empowering deserving women to lead in science, engineering, technology and mathematics. For many of these women, this opportunity can transform not only their careers, but also their communities by inspiring future generations.
