The Wells Fargo Small Business Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for hands-on training, expert mentorship, and capital connections—all aimed at building stronger entrepreneurial ecosystems in urban communities. Fellows will receive leadership development, business acumen workshops, and personalized support that includes introductions to potential funders and investors.
Business & Leadership Workshops: Participate in interactive workshops led by successful entrepreneurs and experts in business strategy, financial literacy, and more. Gain practical insights to enhance your business operations, increase your financial knowledge, and develop sustainable growth strategies.
Mentorship & Capital Connections: Tap into Watson Institute’s extensive network of mentors and community leaders. You’ll also gain access to key funding and investment opportunities, helping you take your business to the next level.
Basecamps: Building Community Ecosystems: Create lasting change by organizing and leading a 1-3 day workshop for emerging entrepreneurs in your community. These Basecamps, with comprehensive training and support, enable Fellows to share their expertise and multiply their impact within their networks.
Pitch Training & Summit: Master the art of storytelling with dedicated pitch coaching. At the Summit, present your venture’s growth and community impact to an audience of investors, partners, and entrepreneurs. This high-profile event will help you secure opportunities to advance your business and expand your influence.
The Fellowship’s curriculum is delivered by a roster of industry experts and experienced entrepreneurs. These mentors bring diverse backgrounds and deep expertise to the program, ensuring Fellows receive relevant, actionable advice and insights. Previous instructors include:
Karen Carr-Crawford: A consultant with over two decades of experience, Karen has worked with small businesses through organizations like Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, and the SBA, specializing in marketing, sales, and operational strategies.
Terrance Orr: A startup advisor and investor with expertise in venture building, product management, and business development across startups and growth-stage companies.
Brian Lee: Co-founder of Roamli and Gildre, Brian helps founders build successful companies through immersive experiences and mentorship.
Program Dates: February 25 – June 4, 2026
Immersive Week: February 25 – March 5, 2026 (with specific session days from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM ET)
Summit: June 2026 (location TBD)
The Fellowship requires a weekly commitment of 8-10 hours, including group sessions, mentorship meetings, and preparation for the Basecamp and Summit events. Active engagement is essential to fully benefit from this immersive learning experience.
The Wells Fargo Small Business Fellowship is ideal for small business owners, nonprofit leaders, and entrepreneurs who:
Lead businesses that uplift and amplify the local small business ecosystem (e.g., business consulting, marketing, financial services).
Provide access to essential financial products and services, including business loans, financial literacy programs, and more.
Have a measurable track record with at least $100,000 in revenue or an operating budget.
Are located in Baltimore, Chicago, or Washington D.C., and are committed to making a lasting impact in their community.
The Fellowship prioritizes individuals who bring an entrepreneurial spirit, a growth mindset, and a passion for sharing their knowledge and resources with others.
Application Deadline: Priority applications are due by January 8, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.
Selection Process: After completing the online application, selected candidates will be invited for a brief interview. Final decisions will be announced by February 2, 2026, with the program beginning February 25, 2026.
