About the Opportunity

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) invites early-career professionals aged 18 to 35 to showcase their creativity and expertise through the Infographic Design Contest for the upcoming International Conference on Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies: Building the Future in an Evolving World, taking place from 1–4 December 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the field of emergency preparedness and response (EPR) and potentially present your work on an international stage.


Contest Theme

Participants are asked to create an original infographic that visually represents key ideas, frameworks, tools, or takeaways from one of the selected IAEA EPR publications. These include:

  • Communication with the Public in a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency

  • Manual for First Responders to a Radiological Emergency

  • Emergency Preparedness and Response Information Management System (EPRIMS)

  • Generic Procedures for Medical Response During a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency

  • Method for Developing a Communication Strategy and Plan

  • Preparedness and Response for Combined Incidents or Emergencies

  • Protection Strategies in Emergencies

  • Exercises to Test Preparedness

  • Medical Physicists Guidance

The infographic must be in English, presented in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format, and be clear, accurate, and engaging.


Who Can Participate?

  • Individuals aged 18–35

  • Nationals of IAEA Member States

  • Entries must be individual submissions (no group work)

  • Participants must have an interest or background in nuclear emergency preparedness and response


How to Apply

To apply, participants must:

  1. Design and submit an original infographic based on one of the IAEA EPR publications listed above.

  2. Submit the infographic in high-resolution (JPEG, PNG, or PDF).

  3. Complete the online form, including:

    • Full name

    • Email address

    • Date of birth

    • Nationality and country of residence

    • Selected publication

    • Intended audience for the infographic

Deadline: 17 August 2025, 11:59 PM CET


Selection Process and Timeline

  • Early September: Shortlisted participants will be contacted and asked to submit a short video addressing a question about the role of early-career professionals in EPR.

  • Early October: Final winners will be announced. Winners must submit a valid passport copy and the editable design file.


Prizes

Top 5 Winners will receive:

  • An all-expenses-paid trip to Riyadh to present at the international conference

  • Publication in the IAEA Bulletin

  • Features on UN-NYG and IAEA-NS social media

  • Infographic displayed at EPR2025 and UN Headquarters in Vienna

Finalists will receive:

  • Recognition across IAEA and UN platforms

  • Infographic featured at global exhibitions and conferences


Design & AI Guidelines

Participants may use any design software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Figma).
AI assistance is allowed only for support (e.g., layout ideas or color palettes), but not for generating content or full designs.

If AI tools are used, you must disclose:

  • What was created using AI

  • Which tools were used

  • How they contributed to your work

Failure to disclose AI use may result in disqualification.


Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be judged on:

  • Visual clarity and impact

  • Creativity and originality

  • Technical accuracy

  • Effectiveness in communicating EPR concepts to the selected audience


  • Finalists agree to assign copyright to the IAEA for public and institutional use.

  • Personal data will be managed under IAEA’s Data Privacy Policy, used solely for organizing the contest and travel, and deleted thereafter.
