SUNY has reportedly told its colleges and universities to review any scholarships targeted to specific races, genders or historically unrepresented groups due to new legal constraints posed by a 2023 Supreme Court decision on affirmative action.
But New York’s public college system is saying little about what specific instructions it gave its 64 campuses, or when and why. The new policy came to light in the midst of a Trump administration push to uproot racial preferences and efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, known by the shorthand DEI.
