Land is Life is proud to announce the
fourth cohort of the Indigenous Women’s Program Fellowship, inviting Indigenous women leaders from Africa, Asia, and the Americas to apply for the 2026 program. This initiative seeks passionate, community-driven women who are leading transformative work at the intersection of Indigenous rights, gender equality, and sustainable development.

The Indigenous Women’s Program (IWP) was conceived, designed, and is led by Indigenous women who understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities their communities face. Through this program, Land is Life supports Indigenous women and their organizations in asserting their collective and individual rights to land and natural resources, enhancing their livelihoods, and promoting gender equity and community well-being.
The program reflects Land is Life’s long-standing commitment to ensuring that Indigenous Peoples have the tools, knowledge, and networks necessary to claim and defend their rights. It recognizes that Indigenous women—often at the forefront of environmental stewardship, community resilience, and cultural preservation—require targeted support to strengthen their leadership roles and influence in local, national, and global decision-making spaces.
The
Indigenous Women’s Program Fellowship is a year-long initiative that nurtures emerging and mid-career Indigenous women leaders who are taking innovative steps to advance the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the empowerment of women and girls. The fellowship provides a unique opportunity for participants to expand their leadership capacity, gain practical experience in project implementation, and build networks with like-minded advocates and allies across regions.
Each selected fellow undertakes a
community-based project that aligns with the program’s mission to advance Indigenous rights. These projects may focus on diverse issues such as:
The 2026 Indigenous Women’s Program Fellowship provides a comprehensive support package designed to empower participants to turn their visions into tangible community impact. Fellows will receive:
By the end of the program, fellows will have not only implemented a meaningful community initiative but also developed stronger leadership and communication skills to sustain and scale their impact beyond the fellowship year.
