Call for Applications — Erasmus Mundus Master in Environmental Sciences, Policy & Management (MESPOM) 2026–2028

The MESPOM Consortium invites applications to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Environmental Sciences, Policy & Management (2026–2028 cohort). The programme is coordinated by CEU in Vienna.

About the MESPOM Programme

The MESPOM Consortium comprises Central European University (Austria), Lund University (Sweden), The University of Manchester (UK), and The University of the Aegean (Greece)

Since 2005, MESPOM has trained professionals capable of solving complex environmental sustainability challenges in international and cross-sector settings. The curriculum is intentionally multi- and interdisciplinary, combining environmental science, management, and policy with applied skills, internships, and exposure to European and global professional networks.

Students gain:

  • Training in advanced environmental analysis, governance, and practice
  • Cross-cutting skills in research, communication, policy and management
  • Hands-on experience through internships with public, private, academic and NGO sectors
  • Exposure to Scandinavian, Mediterranean, Central European and UK institutional contexts
  • Access to 11 Associated Partners in 9 countries across 4 continents

MESPOM is supported by the Erasmus Mundus programme of the European Commission.


Programme Structure

Duration: 24 months — 120 ECTS
Mobility Path:

Academic Phase Host Institution Focus
1st year — Fall & Winter CEU (Vienna, Austria) Core & elective courses in sustainability and cross-cutting competencies
1st year — Spring University of the Aegean (Lesvos, Greece) Environmental science of land, water, ecosystems and sustainable tourism
Summer Associated Partners & other organisations Faculty-supervised internships
2nd year — Fall Lund University or University of Manchester Track in either Industry & Products (Lund) or Environment & Pollution Control (Manchester)
2nd year — Winter/Spring Any consortium university Master’s thesis aligned to academic & career goals

Students may specialise in themes including: climate & energy, urban sustainability, biodiversity & conservation, production & consumption sustainability, and environmental justice & security.

Financial Aid & Tuition

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarships cover travel, visa, installation, tuition, and subsistence for the full programme for selected candidates inside and outside Europe.
Self-funding admissions are also available.

Participation Fees:

  • EU/EEA citizens: €8,000 per academic year
  • Non-EU/EEA citizens: €18,000 per academic year

Students in the Manchester track must plan for additional UK visa and insurance costs (~€2,500).

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Hold (or be finishing) a Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or a related field (natural/engineering/social sciences, law, economics, agriculture, etc.)
  • Demonstrate environmental commitment if first degree is in another field
  • Hold minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 (mandatory)
  • Demonstrate English-language proficiency (minimum scores apply per TOEFL/IELTS/PTE/Cambridge etc., with Manchester restrictions noted)

Late or incomplete applications are not reviewed. All materials must be submitted online through the CEU Application System. Selected applicants may be asked for interviews and proof of residency.
