The Aspire Leaders Program is a prestigious free, online, and global leadership development initiative designed for first-generation and limited-income university students and recent graduates aged 18–29. This transformative program empowers young people around the world through high-quality training, mentorship, and learning experiences developed in collaboration with faculty from Harvard University and other leading institutions.

Who Can Apply? – Aspire Leaders Program Eligibility

To qualify for the Aspire Leaders Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age: 18–29 years old

  • Background: Limited-income or first-generation to attend university

  • Education: Currently enrolled in a university program (undergraduate or graduate) or recently graduated

If you meet the criteria and complete the 10-minute application, you will be accepted into the program.

The Aspire Leaders Program offers an interactive, flexible, and comprehensive learning journey delivered fully online. Participants gain access to global peers, world-class instructors, and career-advancing opportunities.

Module 1 (≈3 Weeks): Personal & Professional Development

  • Strengths-based leadership assessment

  • Professional development tools co-created with Harvard Business School

  • LinkedIn optimization, résumé building, interviewing strategies, and networking tips

  • Live sessions with peers from around the world

Module 2 (≈5 Weeks): Aspire Horizons Leadership Course

This signature course is designed and delivered by Harvard University faculty, covering:

  • Understanding Yourself as a Leader

  • The Importance of Context and Trust

  • Digital Transformation & Artificial Intelligence

  • Community Challenge Analysis

  • Taking Action in Local and Global Communities

Masterclasses: Immersive Learning with Global Educators

Throughout the program, participants join live, synchronous masterclasses led by faculty from leading universities worldwide. These sessions foster real-time discussions, networking, and deep learning with mentors and peers.

No. Aspire Institute is an independent non-profit organization. While the program was founded at Harvard University in 2017, it became an independent initiative in 2021.


2. How much does the program cost?

The program is 100% free.
Starting in 2026, participants may opt to purchase a $5 credential bundle, including:

  • A verifiable digital certificate

  • A personalized letter of recognition


3. Is the Aspire Leaders Program fully online?

Yes. You can participate from anywhere with reliable internet access.


4. What does “first-generation” mean?

You qualify as first-generation if neither parent/caregiver completed a bachelor’s degree.


5. How is “limited-income” defined?

Aspire uses a flexible, context-sensitive definition that recognizes economic disadvantage varies across regions. Applicants self-identify based on their circumstances.


6. Do I need TOEFL, IELTS, or other English test scores?

No test scores are required. However, you should have an intermediate level of English to fully participate.


7. Can high school students apply?

No. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program or recently graduated before the program begins.


8. Can graduate students apply?

Yes. Beginning with Cohort 1 of 2026, graduate students and recent postgraduate graduates may apply.


9. Can full-time employees apply?

Yes—if you graduated within the last three years and meet all other eligibility requirements.


10. Do participants receive certificates or academic credit?

  • Participants who pass Module 2 receive a free certificate of completion.

  • Optional digital credentials will be available for purchase beginning in 2026.

  • The program does not offer academic course credit.
