The Centre d’études en politiques internationales (CÉPI), also known as the Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) at the University of Ottawa, has officially launched the Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI 2025/2026 call for proposals.
This competitive research funding program is designed to stimulate new collaborations and generate impactful research outcomes in international affairs. Independent from existing CÉPI research networks, the Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI (IRC) aim to support innovative, forward-looking projects that address contemporary global challenges and contribute to academic and policy debates at national and international levels.
The CÉPI encourages submissions from interdisciplinary teams proposing bold, creative, and relevant research that strengthens Canada’s role in shaping international policy discussions.
The Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI 2025/2026 seek to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary projectsamong researchers working in fields related to global governance, security, development, international economics, and diplomacy.
Projects funded under this initiative should:
Advance understanding of current international issues and policy debates.
Foster partnerships between scholars from different disciplines or institutions.
Support the production of new knowledge that can influence both academic and policy communities.
Reflect CÉPI’s commitment to advancing evidence-based research and open dialogue on global affairs.
Possible outcomes include edited book collections, journal special issues, or policy reports that enrich public debate and academic inquiry.
Each selected project under the Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI 2025/2026 may receive up to CAD 10,000 in funding. The grant is intended to support activities such as:
Organizing research workshops and conferences hosted by CÉPI.
Hiring research assistants or data analysts.
Developing collaborative publications or special issues.
Conducting fieldwork and disseminating results.
Funding may be used over a period of two to three years, offering flexibility for complex, multi-stage research initiatives.
To be eligible for the Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI 2025/2026, proposals must include the active participation of at least two (2) CÉPI members. Projects involving more than two members are particularly encouraged.
Other eligible participants include:
Non-CÉPI researchers affiliated with the University of Ottawa.
International collaborators or scholars from other Canadian universities.
Experts and practitioners whose work complements the proposed research theme.
This requirement ensures that the funded projects promote cross-disciplinary cooperation and strengthen the intellectual community within the CÉPI and the broader University of Ottawa research network.
Proposals for the Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI 2025/2026 should not exceed four pages and must include the following components:
Research Topic Statement – a maximum of two pages clearly describing the research focus, objectives, and relevance.
Expected Results and Publication Plan – a maximum of two pages outlining anticipated outcomes such as books, journal issues, or reports.
List of CÉPI Members Involved – including CVs (OPVI format) and their specific roles within the project.
List of Non-CÉPI Participants – if applicable, outlining their affiliations and contributions.
Detailed Budget – specifying expenses over the duration of the grant (maximum three years).
Documents must be written in Times New Roman, 12-point font, with 0.75-inch margins. Submissions exceeding these limits will not be considered.

Applicants are encouraged to review the previous winning proposal (2024/2025) to better understand successful project structures and expectations.
Proposals submitted to the Initiatives de recherche du CÉPI 2025/2026 will be reviewed by a multidisciplinary selection committee composed of CÉPI members and external experts.
Evaluation will focus on:
Academic rigor and innovation of the proposal.
Relevance to global policy debates and CÉPI research priorities.
Feasibility of objectives and budget.
Degree of collaboration between CÉPI and external researchers.
Selected projects will be notified following committee deliberations and will receive formal confirmation of funding.
