About the EUAA Traineeship Programme

The EUAA traineeship programme is designed for:

  • Recent university graduates

  • Students enrolled in higher education who have completed at least three years of studies

The programme provides hands-on experience in EU operations and contributes to enhancing the Common European Asylum System (CEAS).

Traineeship Duration and Grant

Contract Length

  • Initial contract: 6 months

  • Renewable for: up to another 6 months

  • Maximum traineeship duration: 12 months

Financial Benefits

  • €1,500 monthly traineeship grant

  • Travel allowance at the beginning and end of the traineeship (for moves over 100 km)

Application Period for the Next Intake

The application process for the upcoming intake is NOW OPEN.

  • Application Deadline:
    2 December 2025 at 12:00 PM (noon – Malta time)
    Late submissions will not be accepted.

  • Interview Period:
    Mid-December 2025 – Mid-January 2026

  • Possible Start Dates:

    • 1 March 2026

    • 16 March 2026

    • 1 April 2026

How to Apply for the EUAA Traineeship

  1. Create a profile on the EUAA online application tool.

  2. Apply for current traineeship vacancies listed on the platform.

  3. In the motivation section, clearly state which positions you want to be considered for. You may express interest in multiple positions.

  4. Submit your application well before the deadline to avoid system overload.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a national of an EU Member State or a Schengen-associated country (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland)

  • Have completed at least three years of higher education

  • Demonstrate minimum English level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

When Do Traineeships Start?

Traineeships at EUAA may start on the:

  • 1st, or

  • 16th of any month

Selection Process

1. Vacancy Notice Publication

EUAA posts a detailed vacancy notice for each traineeship, usually open for one month.

2. Application Screening

Human Resources evaluates applications based on:

  • Eligibility criteria

  • Skills and competencies

  • EUAA’s operational needs

EUAA may also conduct keyword searches in its existing applicant pool.

3. Interview

Shortlisted candidates must attend a remote interview held in English.

4. Final Decision

All interviewed applicants receive the final results once the process concludes.

Important: when applying for a traineeship position, please state in your application motivation field for which position(s) you would like to be considered within the relevant Traineeship notice. You can express interest for several positions.

The closing date for the submission of applications is 2 December 2025 at 12:00 pm (noon – Malta time). The Agency will disregard any application received after this date and time.

The interview period is planned to take place from mid-December 2025 to mid-January 2026. Traineeships at the EUAA start on 1st or 16th day of the month. This traineeship is expected to start on 1st March, 16thMarch or 1st April 2026.
