Are you a changemaker from a refugee background looking to transform your idea into a real social business? Applications are now open for the TERN Changemakers Incubation Programme 2026, a six-month programme supporting refugee entrepreneurs across the UK to develop, launch, and grow impactful social enterprises.
Running from January to June 2026, this incubator provides tailored support, expert training, and a powerful community dedicated to helping you bring your mission to life.
Applications close Monday, 1 December 2025 (9:00 AM UK time) — but spaces may fill early, so apply as soon as possible.
The TERN Changemakers Incubation Programme (previously known as Ideas into Action) is a flagship initiative by TERN — The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network. It supports refugees and individuals from refugee backgrounds to build sustainable social enterprises, non-profits, or community initiatives.
The 2026 edition offers:
1-1 social business support
Online interactive workshops
A supportive entrepreneurial community
Grant writing guidance
Practical training in branding, legal setup, operations, fundraising, and pitching
A public showcase during Refugee Week
A hybrid learning experience with one in-person training day in London
While this cohort does not include the professional coaching delivered in previous years due to funding constraints, the core incubation support remains comprehensive and high-impact.
This programme is ideal for:
Refugees or individuals from a refugee background living in the UK
Aspiring or early-stage social entrepreneurs
People with a clear idea addressing a social or environmental problem
Founders who have tested, piloted, or started developing their solution
Individuals seeking structured guidance, mentorship, and a supportive network
English proficiency is required to participate, though no formal qualifications are needed.
Participants receive dedicated support from experienced business coaches up to three times per month. You can work on any aspect of your organisation—fundraising, branding, legal structure, volunteer recruitment, or financial planning.
A structured curriculum covers:
Business planning
Mission, vision, values
Financial and impact planning
Fundraising and access to finance
Legal registration
Branding and marketing
Pitch preparation
Workshops take place on Wednesday evenings, making them accessible for those with other commitments.
Over the past editions, TERN-supported entrepreneurs have collectively raised more than £200,000 in startup grants. The programme includes hands-on training in identifying grants, writing strong applications, and articulating project impact.
During Refugee Week, participants pitch their ideas to an audience of 90–100 funders, partners, and sector professionals. The showcase may form part of the upcoming Refugee Changemakers Forum.
Participants join:
A cohort of 16 social entrepreneurs
A wider network of over 60 TERN alumni
The larger UK social enterprise ecosystem
This community provides long-term support, accountability, and collaboration opportunities.
