The Quantitative Sciences Undergraduate Research Experience (QSURE) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is now accepting applications for its 2026 summer internship program. This 10-week program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to work on data-driven research projects focused on cancer and population health.
Program Dates: Monday, June 1 – Friday, August 7, 2026
Application Deadline: Monday, January 19, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. (Eastern Time)
Stipend: $6,375 for the 10-week internship
Housing: Available for accepted students
Eligibility: Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
QSURE provides hands-on research experience for motivated undergraduates interested in biostatistics, epidemiology, health outcomes, and computational oncology. Each intern is paired with a faculty mentor and works on an individual project that contributes to cancer research.
Participants develop quantitative and analytical skills, learn research ethics, and receive guidance on graduate education and career development in quantitative health sciences.
Mentorship from leading researchers and faculty
Training in data analysis and statistical modeling
Exposure to diverse research applications and scientific presentations
Education in the responsible conduct of research
Career development workshops and graduate study insights
QSURE has a strong record of success:
100% of alumni recommend the program to other students
71% of alumni have entered graduate programs (Master’s or PhD) in related fields
Many participants have contributed to publishable research projects
Applicants must:
Be enrolled full-time as undergraduate students with an expected graduation after December 2026
Be authorized to work in the U.S.
Be in good academic standing
Have completed at least one semester of college-level statistics (AP courses do not qualify)
Demonstrate proficiency in R, SAS, STATA, or Python
Show interest in cancer or population health research
Competitive candidates will have strong analytical skills, an excellent academic record, and effective communication abilities.
Applicants must submit a single application including:
Resume
Statement of Interest (approximately 500 words) describing motivation and quantitative experience
Letter of Good Academic Standing from a dean, advisor, or registrar
Letter of Recommendation from a professor or supervisor
Transcripts will be requested after acceptance. Applications submitted by January 4, 2026 will receive priority consideration. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
The QSURE internship is based at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, located at 633 3rd Avenue, Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The location is easily accessible by subway, bus, and train, with MSK shuttle service connecting to the main campus on the Upper East Side.
QSURE projects apply quantitative methods to cancer research in the following areas:
Biostatistics: Statistical methodology, prediction modeling, clinical trials
Epidemiology: Cancer etiology, risk, and prevention
Health Outcomes: Health service delivery and industry relationships
Computational Oncology: Molecular and genomic data analysis
Examples of past projects include:
Predicting liver metastases in colorectal cancer using radiomics data
Understanding prescription drug use differences among populations
Integrative analysis of genomic factors underlying cancer disparities
