The Amujae Initiative is redefining leadership across Africa. Launched by the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center) in 2020, the Initiative is dedicated to identifying, empowering, and elevating exceptional African women leaders in public service and political life.
More than a leadership program, Amujae is a purpose-driven movement. Its mission is to equip African women to rise confidently to the highest levels of public leadership—and bring other women along with them.
Each year, up to 15 trailblazing African women are selected to join a powerful network of leaders shaping the continent’s future. Successful applicants are already active in public leadership and demonstrate the vision, courage, and capability to lead at the highest levels.
Since launch, the EJS Center has supported four cohorts of Amujae Leaders—55 dynamic women from 24 African countries. These leaders are driving impact in government, public institutions, diplomacy, civil society, and beyond.
Amujae Leaders gain access to a lifelong leadership network, strategic coaching, and mentorship from some of the world’s most accomplished women—including former Heads of State. This is the only program in the world offering African women direct guidance from former female presidents.
Becoming an Amujae Leader provides unparalleled opportunities to:
Access high-level mentorship from global public leadership experts
Build a powerful pan-African and international network
Strengthen strategic, political, and leadership capabilities
Accelerate pathways to the highest offices in public service
Gain support to uplift and mentor future generations of women leaders
This program is designed for ambitious African women who are ready to shape national and continental agendas and lead systemic change.
The Amujae Initiative is seeking women who demonstrate:
Citizenship of an African country
Proven professional leadership and impact
Strong commitment to public service and national development
Integrity, ethical leadership, and a purpose-driven mindset
