Africa Impact Fundraising Grant: Funding and Training Opportunities for African NGOs and Social Enterprises

The Africa Impact Fundraising Grant is a major new opportunity for African NGOs, community-based organizations, and social enterprises searching for sustainable ways to strengthen their fundraising capacity. Developed by the New Africa Fund, this program responds to one of the most persistent challenges for African civil society: access to funding and professional fundraising expertise. Through a blend of training, practical experience, and performance-based support, the Africa Impact Fundraising Grant offers a well-structured pathway for organizations determined to scale their impact.

For many organizations operating across Africa, fundraising is often fragmented, inconsistent, or dependent on short-term grants. The Africa Impact Fundraising Grant aims to change this by equipping teams with skills that foster long-term sustainability. The program focuses on training organizations in effective communication, donor cultivation, financial strategy, and campaign design—competencies that are essential to building resilience in the non-profit sector.

A Comprehensive Training and Funding Program

The Africa Impact Fundraising Grant stands out for its depth and multi-step approach. Rather than offering one-time financial support, the program combines learning, execution, and mentorship to ensure that organizations not only raise funds but also develop internal systems that can sustain growth.

1. Foundational Training for up to 70 Organizations

Participating organizations begin with an online training course dedicated to individual donor campaigns. This training covers storytelling techniques, donor segmentation, social media outreach, and how to build effective fundraising pages. With up to 70 organizations selected at this stage, the program ensures wide access to capacity-building tools.

2. A 30-Day Fundraising Challenge

Upon completing the training, organizations immediately put their new knowledge into practice. The Africa Impact Fundraising Grant includes a 30-day fundraising challenge, during which participants launch real campaigns targeting small donors. This hands-on approach allows teams to test their strategy, learn from real-time results, and refine their communication skills. Importantly, organizations can access up to $5,000 USD in matching funds, making the challenge both instructive and financially rewarding.

3. One Year of Free Fiscal Sponsorship

A key advantage of the Africa Impact Fundraising Grant is the provision of 12 months of free fiscal sponsorship from the New Africa Fund. For emerging organizations or small community groups, this service can significantly improve donor confidence, administrative efficiency, and compliance with international funding standards. Fiscal sponsorship may also open doors to new partners and funding avenues.

4. Intensive Workshop in Kigali for Top-Performing Organizations

Only the most successful organizations from the fundraising challenge will advance to the final phase. Up to 10 top performers will be invited to a fully immersive, week-long workshop in Kigali, Rwanda. This in-person training covers crucial areas including:

  • financial management

  • marketing and communications

  • grant writing and proposal development

  • donor research

  • donor retention strategies

  • local fundraising systems

  • campaign planning and evaluation

This workshop offers a transformative opportunity for organizations to receive advanced mentoring, network with peers, and strengthen institutional capacity on multiple levels.

5. Additional Performance-Based Opportunities

As the Africa Impact Fundraising Grant program evolves, participating organizations may benefit from additional funding opportunities linked to performance, innovation, or demonstrated growth. This dynamic approach ensures ongoing engagement beyond the initial phases.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Africa Impact Fundraising Grant, an organization must be legally registered in one of the 55 African Union member states. This requirement ensures that the program specifically supports African-led and African-based initiatives. The program is open to NGOs, social enterprises, and community-led groups working across any sector, provided they can demonstrate commitment to improving their fundraising capacity.
