About the Internship

The Afreximbank Internship Program is designed to foster a deeper understanding of African trade, trade finance, and development economics. Interns will work alongside experts to learn about the Bank’s structured trade finance model and operations.

The program is open-ended, with applications accepted throughout the year. Internships run twice annually (starting in January and June) and last for 3 to 6 months.

Interns will be placed primarily at the Afreximbank headquarters in Cairo, with potential rotations across value chain departments to gain broader exposure to the Group’s activities.


Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Afreximbank Internship 2025, applicants must:

  • Be students enrolled full-time in undergraduate or postgraduate programs in recognized institutions.

  • Preferably study economics, business administration, finance, accounting, social sciences, statistics, law, sciences, or engineering.

  • Be nationals of Afreximbank member countries, students of African descent in the diaspora, or non-African students aligned with the Bank’s mission for Africa’s transformation.

  • Be between 20 and 32 years old in the year of application.

  • Be fluent in English or French (knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is an advantage).

  • Submit a recommendation letter from their university indicating the proposed internship period (up to six months).

Children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible to apply.

  • A monthly tax-free stipend of USD 1,000 and a housing allowance of USD 500 for interns relocating from their home country.

  • Medical insurance and residence visa support for the duration of the internship.

  • A comprehensive induction and mentoring system to support interns throughout their placement.

Important Notes:

  • Interns are responsible for personal expenses including meals, local transport, and clothing.

  • The internship is in-person only — remote work is not allowed.

  • The program does not guarantee future employment with Afreximbank.

  • Each participant must submit a final report at the end of their internship summarizing their learning experience and contributions.
