A scholarship named in memory of a local lawmaker’s son has been awarded to a Canajoharie High School senior.
This year’s Alexander John Smullen Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to recent Canajoharie graduate Aiden Bowerman.
This scholarship is given to a high school student looking to pursue a career in the outdoors, just like Assemblyman Robert Smullen’s son, Alexander Smullen, or AJ.
AJ died in February 2024 after being hit by a car.
Assemblyman Robert Smullen awarded the scholarship to Bowerman.
He was ranked sixth in his class and his teachers describe him as a hardworking, selfless individual committed to helping others.
He’s also a recent NewsChannel 13 Big Board Sports “Athlete of the Week.”
