Local sorority chapter awards scholarships to Shelby County students – Shelby County Reporter

    The Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. announced the awarding of eight scholarships to exceptional students across Shelby County and surrounding communities. These scholarships reflect the chapter’s ongoing commitment to educational development and community empowerment.
    Six scholarships were awarded to high school students, representing four school districts: Shelby County, Alabaster, Chilton County, and Hoover.  Two scholarships were awarded to post-secondary students attending area institutions.
    The following students received scholarships:
    High School Recipients
    Shelby County
    Alabaster
    Chilton County
    Hoover
    Post-secondary Recipients
    “The Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter remains steadfast in our mission to empower communities through educational development,” read an official press release by the chapter. “We fulfill this mission by providing scholarships and academic support initiatives that encourage academic excellence while inspiring young leaders to make meaningful contributions to their communities.”
    The organization shared that it believes investing in students is essential for building a brighter future, and that they honored to support each recipient on their educational journey.
    “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 scholarship recipients and look forward to the continued success of these future leaders,” read the release
    Comprised of 171 members, the Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service organization that provides public service initiatives that benefit Shelby, Bibb and Chilton counties.
    Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships; to provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in their communities. Today Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has more than 300,000 initiated members and more than 1,000 chapters worldwide.
    The Sorority uses its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health and political awareness and involvement to create its national and local programs.
