NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 10 — Seven hundred and fifty young women are set to benefit from a new employment partnership between the Standard Chartered Foundation and UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited (GenU), aimed at linking female youth from underserved communities to formal jobs.

The Foundation has committed Sh97.5 million to the three-year initiative, which will draw candidates from UNICEF GenU’s existing pool of trainees and connect them directly to employers through local job-placement agencies.
The focus is on women aged 18–24, a demographic that continues to face some of the highest unemployment levels in the country.
According to the organisations, the programme will target both the supply and demand sides of the labour market by preparing job-ready talent while working with private-sector players to identify and fill vacancies.
UNICEF will also support collaborations with county governments to explore additional job pathways based on local needs.
“This partnership reflects our strategic commitment to unlocking economic opportunity for young people through decent employment. By combining UNICEF’s extensive skilling ecosystem with our employability ambition focusing on work readiness and vocational training, we are building a model that connects talent and training to real jobs,”said Standard Chartered Kenya CEO Kariuki Ngari.

“Securing decent work opportunities is our foundation to strengthening local economies, deepen private sector participation, and foster long-term, inclusive growth.”
“This initiative complements the ‘National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement’ (NYOTA) programme recently launched by the Government of Kenya with support from the World Bank which aims to tackle youth unemployment in the country for the next five years,”said UNICEF Kenya Representative Shaheen Nilofer.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of persistently high youth unemployment and limited access to formal jobs for young women, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.
The partnership is expected to place beneficiaries primarily into private-sector roles, though details of the specific sectors and employer commitments were not disclosed.
The 750 targeted positions represent a small portion of Kenya’s broader unemployment challenge, but the organisations say the programme is designed to build on existing training investments and accelerate job placements for women who have already completed skills-development courses.
