Current Openings

Student Research Assistant Roles (Paid)

The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society welcomes students from all academic backgrounds to join us as Research Assistants (RAs) throughout the year. These roles offer valuable opportunities to engage deeply in research at the intersection of technology, law, and society.

Information and Eligibility

  • Academic Year RAs: Open to actively enrolled Harvard University students.

  • Summer RAs: Open to any currently enrolled U.S.-based undergraduate or graduate student.

  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. International students may use CPT/OPT where eligible (assessed at the hiring stage).

  • Compensation: Standard hourly research assistant rate of $21/hour (no additional benefits).

  • Multiple Applications: If applying to more than one RA opportunity, please indicate this in your materials.

The RA Experience

RAs contribute substantively to the Center’s projects by conducting collaborative and independent research under the guidance of BKC staff, fellows, and faculty. Each position offers unique responsibilities and learning opportunities based on the Center’s needs and the RA’s skills.

Employment Opportunities

The Applied Social Media Lab (ASML) at the Berkman Klein Center is currently recruiting for several exciting opportunities. These roles are ideal for individuals who want to combine technical expertise, research, and strategic thinking to address issues at the intersection of social media, technology, and the public good.

Current Openings

  • Product Manager (Full-Time)
    ASML seeks a full-time Product Manager to bring strategic, execution, and technical skills to drive innovation and change. The Product Manager will oversee projects, collaborate with researchers and engineers, and ensure alignment with the Lab’s mission to design technology in the public interest.

  • Software Engineer Graduate Research Assistant (Part-Time)
    This Fall 2025 graduate-level RA position will support engineering projects within the Applied Social Media Lab. The role is ideal for students with strong technical skills and an interest in contributing to research-based technology development.

  • Business Graduate Research Assistant (Part-Time)
    The Business RA will focus on developing product business models and supporting strategic planning for technology projects in Fall 2025. This position is designed for students with backgrounds in business, entrepreneurship, or related fields.

  • Policy Research Assistant (Part-Time)
    The Policy RA will engage in an independent, in-depth research project analyzing social media company policies. This Fall 2025 opportunity is tailored for students interested in governance, policy, and the broader societal impacts of technology.
